LITTLE HAVANA PHOTOS -Viernes Culturales-
On Friday, June 24th we decided to go down to Miami's Cuban Neighborhood known as "Little Havana" to explore and learn about the Cuban culture. We ate in a restaurant called "El Pub" with such things on the menu as Fricase de Pollo, Vaca Frita and Bistec de Higado a La Plancha. Fortunately the menu was in English too. Although the food tasted different I did enjoy trying it! After dinner we got to walk around Calle Ocho. There were many people on the side of the road selling artwork, ceramics and clothing. We also saw a cigar factory that hand wrapped cigars. There was a music festival going on in the streets with plenty of dancing and performers on stilts. I had a great experience and really enjoyed my time in Little Havana! -Cody Chlasta- July 2005
Map Of Cuba Map Of Little Havana The last Friday of every month in Miami's Little Havana is a program called Viernes Culturales which takes place in the heart of Calle Ocho! There is no Malecon, no Floridita Bar or no La Boguedita del Medio, but if you want to experience the taste and ambiance of Havana, then Little Havana is a must stop on your next trip to Miami! Viernes Culturales is an artistic, cultural and social happening that draws about 5000 people each month. We ate awesome Cuban food at El Pub, listened to salsa music, watched Flamenco dancers and shopped from local vendors that had booths set up on the streets. Art is alive everywhere and I especially liked the painted murals honoring Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. The people are so proud of this event and their community and they welcomed us with open arms! -Craig Chlasta- July 2005
