Caja de Muerto is located about six miles South of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Caja de Muerto is part of a reserve that consists of three islands which hold a diversity of natural resources in a wonderful scenic setting. The waters surrounding the islands are beautiful and clear, with coral reefs and abundant sea life. Its shorelines are diverse with rocky areas, sandy beaches and mangrove patches. The interior is a dry forest. There is an old Spanish Lighthouse dating back to 1887 and the hike to reach it is worth it! To get to Caja De Muerto from San Juan, travel South on PR 52 to exit 104. Travel South on PR 12 to La Guancha (boardwalk). From La Guancha you can take a boat to the island for about $20.00. Call Rafi Vega of Island Adventures at 787-842-8546 to make a reservation.
